When is the deadline to apply for the challenge?

October 21st


Do I need to know a specific programming language to participate in the challenge?

Mini Programs have to be developed using a JavaScript framework designed by Tencent. Developers have to write wxml, wxss, and leverage this framework for all the development.


What is the official language of this event? 

English


Do I have to develop my Mini Program in the Chinese language?

Yes, it will need to be developed in Chinese.  Translation services will be available upon request. 


How many Mini Programs will be showcased at the Berlin event?

30 Mini Programs will be selected at the end of the online development phase to attend the showcase event in Berlin. A final selection of top 6 teams onsite will be invited to present on stage on the afternoon of December 11th, as well as to an exclusive workshop with WeChat product team at the next day. Top 3 team will have the opportunity to present at TechCrunch ExtraCrunch Stage on the afternoon of December 12th.


I already have an existing Mini Program; can I tailor it to a partner challenge?

If I made it to top 30, should I prepare to speak on stage?

At the on-site event, all 30 teams will be showcasing to the jury on a stand in the form of a casual science fair. Then the top 6 will be announced and invited to speak on stage. Yes, preparation in advance is necessary.


What are the awards for winning teams?

Top six winners will be chosen, with $10,000 for the top runner, $8,000 for the 2nd place, $5,000 for the 3rd place, and $3,000 for the remaining top six. The winner of Public Vote will receive an award of $2,000.


I’m not from Germany. Should I apply for a Visa?

You need to check Schengen Visa policies to see whether you will need a visa. Please note that it takes time to apply for a visa, so be mindful to start early.

Can I use 3rd party mini program development tools for the challenge?

Yes, you can. Although, we will also evaluate your program to see whether it could be easily implemented—third party tools/templates might not perform as well in specific circumstances.
